PARISH VISIT TO ASYLUM SEEKERS CENTRE
A small group from the parish recently visited the Asylum Seekers Centre in Newtown, and found a bustling hive of activity where people from many countries (they number 74 from places like Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Burundi and Rwanda) are assisted with food support, accommodation, financial relief, legal advice, health care, employment help and simply ears of the many volunteers to listen to their stories. The Centre receives no Government funding, relying on the generosity of donors, philanthropic foundations and the work of volunteers. It was a heart-lifting visit.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Congratulations to the 59 young people of our parish who made their First Holy Communion on Sunday 13th September. They are commencing a lifetime commitment to regularly receiving communion and taking part in parish life. To their proud parents, grandparents and families we offer a warm welcome and our assurance to offer whatever support we can as a parish in the development of your child in becoming a loving, compassionate, mature adult. The names of the First Holy Communion recipients are listed here.

GIVING TREE MEMORIAL PLAQUE & DONOR BOOK
In gratitude to those who donated to St Mary Magdalene’s Centenary Appeal last year, we acknowledge the generosity of our parishioners with two forms of remembrance. A memorial plaque, the Giving Tree, has been installed in the chapel of Our Lady next to the altar. The names engraved alongside the Giving Tree are of a deceased family member or members dear to the major appeal donors. A Book of Centenary Donors is also to be displayed in the church, holding the calligraphied names of all those who gave to the appeal and so enabled the restoration of our beautiful church.
CENTENARY CAPITAL APPEAL & MYANMAR WATER TANKS APPEAL
The conservation work on our beautiful sanctuary of prayer and worship St Mary Magdalene’s has now been completed. Our appeal, launched in April 2014, has yielded many wonderfully generous donations. Our target was $500,000, reached in November 2014. At Christmas an appeal was conducted for water tanks in Myanmar, sponsored by Rosemary Breen. The fund stands in excess of $40,000.
The success of these appeals is a work of the superb generosity of the parishioners of Rose Bay and Dover Heights. Congratulations!
